Gems like Rubies, Cat Eyes, Star Sapphires, Blue Sapphires, Moonstones, Topaz can be bought from the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Exchange in Colombo for reasonable prices. They also offer a free Gem testing service for tourists.

A handicrafts Emporium, Laksala is operated by the State. Handicrafts made from raw materials ranging from wood to paper Mache, metals to natural fiber, buffalo horn to bamboo and coconut shell, are sold here. Products ranging from household items to costume jewellery are sold in its network of branches in the main towns.
